~ One Fine May Day ~ 五月的一天

如果你看過Nicktoon（海綿寶寶也是Nicktoons 之一），應該有看過“Ahhh! Real Monsters!”。有一天我心血來潮，寫了一首關於黑人娃娃怪獸的詩。

The Golliwog Monster

The children, they sat in a circle
Hush voices, whispering terror.
An owl hooted, their eyes opened wider
In fear, then there was laughter.

The spell over, the children hastened
To bed, where the sandman beckoned.
But down in the corner which lay forgotten,
The terror they started, a lop-eyed monster whose smile widened

With glee, the children had not ended
My story when Mummy came and chased me away
To a far away darkness that lights had mended,
My terrified babies, whose cries make me fey.

And so, the monster, on tiptoes he crept
To the nearest bed, where a child of five slept.
Wake up, wake up, little one, ‘tis me,
Your nightmare! Cry! And appease me!

The child sat up, sleepy-eyed, tousled-head
Go away! He said, It’s time for my bed!
Oh, look at you, with your funny little wig!
Like the golliwog doll Mummy took away to fix!

And then he laughed, precious little boy of five,
The monster made a droll little face and began to cry.
Oh, hateful child, what have you been taught to fear?
Not monsters under the bed, in the closet, or here!
